Statement of National Security Advisor GEN James Jones on Wikileaks
"The United States strongly condemns the disclosure of classified information by individuals and organizations which could put the lives of Americans and our partners at risk, and threaten our national security. Wikileaks made no effort to contact us about these documents – the United States government learned from news organizations that these documents would be posted. These irresponsible leaks will not impact our ongoing commitment to deepen our partnerships with Afghanistan and Pakistan; to defeat our common enemies; and to support the aspirations of the Afghan and Pakistani people.
The documents posted by Wikileaks reportedly cover a period of time from January 2004 to December 2009. On December 1, 2009, President Obama announced a new strategy with a substantial increase in resources for Afghanistan, and increased focus on al Qaeda and Taliban safe-havens in Pakistan, precisely because of the grave situation that had developed over several years. This shift in strategy addressed challenges in Afghanistan that were the subject of an exhaustive policy review last fall. We know that serious challenges lie ahead, but if Afghanistan is permitted to slide backwards, we will again face a threat from violent extremist groups like al Qaeda who will have more space to plot and train. That is why we are now focused on breaking the Taliban’s momentum and building Afghan capacity so that the Afghan government can begin to assume responsibility for its future. The United States remains committed to a strong, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan.
Since 2009, the United States and Pakistan have deepened our important bilateral partnership. Counter-terrorism cooperation has led to significant blows against al Qaeda’s leadership. The Pakistani military has gone on the offensive in Swat and South Waziristan, at great cost to the Pakistani military and people. The United States and Pakistan have also commenced a Strategic Dialogue, which has expanded cooperation on issues ranging from security to economic development. Pakistan and Afghanistan have also improved their bilateral ties, most recently through the completion of a Transit-Trade Agreement. Yet the Pakistani government – and Pakistan’s military and intelligence services – must continue their strategic shift against insurgent groups. The balance must shift decisively against al Qaeda and its extremist allies. U.S. support for Pakistan will continue to be focused on building Pakistani capacity to root out violent extremist groups, while supporting the aspirations of the Pakistani people."

The firing of 241 Washington D.C. teachers is also in the news!!!

Looks like a public trial is coming, and this is not the display Democrats want to deal with. The contentious political season will make Rangel a major focus point of political ad campaigns.
You can already see the campaign ads coming.
Should Congressman Rangel graciously exit, and leave the scrutinizing spotlight? Is it time for Congressman Rangel to say farewell to Washington?

The Obama Administration, The Agriculture Secretary, and NAACP rightfully apologized to Ms. Sherrod for the ridiculous rush to judgement in this now infamous story and case.
Still no apology from the smearing source.

Well here we go again, yet another smear job via editing and rushing to cameras with bias denigrating commentary. Case in point: the story of Shirley Sherrod.
"So called" NEWS organizations, the NAACP, and The Agriculture Department sprinted (in stilletos, and wingtip oxfords) before cameras and on websites . . . aimed, and ready to dismiss, smear, and destroy.
The NAACP apologized, and said they were "snookered" by the "so called" NEWS organization. The Agriculture Secretary is said to be reviewing this case. And he should!!!
The greater story is how rigid ideology, an apparent endless thirst to demean, debase, berate, diminish and smear, and an immediate media can get it ALL so very WRONG!!!
All involved in this travesty should apologize publically.
Ms. Sherrod's story is one of compelling growth, transformation and evolution. Learning, and a life dedicated to working in peace for all humanity.

On today's show we dealt with...BP Deepwater Horizon Well was capped yesterday, this is still a very sensitive time...as we all watch to see if fix will hold, until the permanent killing of the well takes place.
However, a very serious and prominent Oil Industry insider Mr. Matt Simmons of the " Ocean Energy Institute" says there could be another well 5 to 6 miles away from the Deepwater historic gusher. However, there are no cameras to show this other possible massive hole. We are discussing.

In his presentation to the Committee, the Manager noted that "fails to deliver" in the mortgage-backed securities (MBS) market had reached very high levels in recent months. Under these conditions, dealers had experienced difficulty in arranging delivery of a small amount--including about $9 billion of securities with 5.5 percent coupons issued by Fannie Mae--of the $1.25 trillion of MBS that the Desk at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York had purchased between January 2009 and March 2010.
The Desk had postponed settlement of some of these transactions through the use of dollar rolls. The Manager discussed alternative methods of settling the outstanding transactions and recommended that the Committee authorize the Desk to engage in coupon swap transactions to facilitate the settlement of these purchases. The Manager noted that a coupon swap is a common transaction in the market for MBS in which the two counterparties exchange securities at market prices."
