Arizona Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is fighting for her life, along with the others tragically violated in this national horrific event.

Clearly, the political climate has been toxic, with poisonous, rancid rhetoric, and a dehumanization of those holding elected office. Particularly Democratic elected office.

We as a nation, and populous must say DOWN WITH DEMONIZING, DEHUMANIZING, DEVALUING, DEBASING, AND DELIBERATELY DESTROYING . . . DIALOG. PERIOD.

PRAYERS FOR ARIZ. CONGRESSWOMAN GABRIELLE GIFFORDS, LOVED ONES, STAFF, AND ALL OTHERS VICTIMIZED IN THIS HORRIFIC EVENT. THE INDIA DECLAIR SHOW

A tragic day in Arizona, and America. We are witnessing a complete breakdown of humanity, and decency in this country.

Prayers, and prayerful thoughts and condolences for Democratic Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, those killed, and brutally injured today.

Arizona Democratic Congresswoman Giffords was preparing to speak with constituents, at a neighboring Safeway grocery store. Many people were shot, several were killed including a 9 year old child.

President Obama has issued the following statement:

"This morning, in an unspeakable tragedy, a number of Americans were shot in Tucson, Arizona, at a constituent meeting with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. And while we are continuing to receive information, we know that some have passed away, and that Representative Giffords is gravely wounded.

We do not yet have all the answers. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers."

Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement condemning the attack on Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and members of her staff today in Tucson, AZ:

“I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff. An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families. This is a sad day for our country."

We as a nation have witnessed a consistent campaign of demonizing Democratic government officials, and those who serve in government.

The blazing demonization is clearly and completely . . . irresponsible. PERIOD.

Government employees, elected officials and the people who make the United States Government work . . . should not be demonized, and vilified. PERIOD.

This is a tragic day in Arizona, and America. We can and must . . . do and be better!!!

***** The Scott Sisters released TODAY.
The high profile controversial case turns a definite corner today, as Jamie and Gladys Scott, jailed since 1994 were released today.

In December, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour indefinitely suspended the life sentence of the Scott sisters, and made the stipulation of Gladys donating a desperately needed kidney to her ailing sister Jamie.

Update:
At a highly anticipated press conference, Jamie Scott bellowed gratitude for she, and Ms. Gladys Scott's freedom. Saying "I AM SO GRATEFUL!!!"

Thank you to all who worked so diligently for the release of the Scott sisters.

***** The debt ceiling, and how it will be handled.

Treasury Secretary Geithner sent a spine shivering letter to Speaker Boehner, congressional leaders, and members yesterday.

Secreatry Geithner said:
“Failure to raise the limit would precipitate a default by the United States. Default would effectively impose a significant and long-lasting tax on all Americans and all American businesses and could lead to the loss of millions of American jobs.”

Speaker Boehner is emphasizing the need for painful budget cuts to be made in order for Congress to authorize the debt ceiling to be raised.

WOW. Will serious, and painful budget cutting be the price for raising the debt ceiling?

"Secretary Duncan provided this summary of U.S. students’ performance on the 2009 PISA:

• In reading literacy, 15-year-old American students were average performers. The U.S. effectively showed no improvement in reading since 2000. Overall, the OECD’s rankings have U.S. students in 14^th place in reading literacy among OECD nations.
• In mathematics, U.S. 15-year-olds are below-average performers among OECD nations—ranked 25^th. After a dip in our 2006 math scores, U.S. students returned to the same level of performance in 2009 as six years earlier, in 2003. U.S. students outperformed their peers in math in only five OECD countries.
• The most encouraging finding from PISA is that our average science score is up. In 2006, American 15-year-olds had below-average skills in scientific literacy, compared to their OECD peers. Today, U.S. students have improved enough to become average performers in science among OECD nations, earning 17^th place in the OECD rankings.

“The hard truth,” Secretary Duncan said, “is that other high-performing nations have passed us by during the last two decades…In a highly competitive knowledge economy, maintaining the educational status quo means America’s students are effectively losing ground.”

PISA’s high-scorers include South Korea, Finland and Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai in China, and Canada.

How much money the U.S. spends on education isn’t the problem. We spend more per student than any nation in the PISA study except Luxembourg.

“The real problem with K-12 spending in the U.S. is our low educational productivity,” Arne said. “Unlike high-performing systems, we achieve less per dollar. And we do less to target spending on the most challenged students and schools.”
